Do have to wonder a bit about the fare comparisons.   Melbourne and Sydney are as cheap as chips in reality ..  :P

Adelaide is good too!

I have no doubt in my mind that Perth has Australia's best railway system.

Services are frequent. Trains are fairly new and train speeds are decent. Well connected by buses.

Indeed.  Looking forward to visiting in January.  The other advantage they have is a sensible fare structure, relatively new rail network (without a lot of the legacy issues east) and not much shared running with freight.

If you discount the fare stuff, Queensland Rail does well.

QR trains are rather slow IMHO.

For the longer lines (Beenleigh, Cleveland, Ipswich), they need to separate the lines into all day express that skips most stations within 30 minutes of Central, and an all-stopper service that serves stations within 30 minutes of the CBD.

For stations that are within 30 minutes of the CBD, the slowness can be counteracted by boosting the frequency to a train every 15 minutes. With more development, this could be upgraded further to metro standards.

The main difference between what we have now in QLD, and European metros is simply train frequencies. So increase the frequency...

Comment: Canstar Blue Metro Trains Passenger Ratings 2016

Good Morning,

Somewhat disturbing to see the general headline grabbing reporting of the Canstar Blue Metro Trains Passenger Ratings 2016.

Queensland Rail is actually equal second best in the overall satisfaction ratings, beaten only by Transperth.  This is commendable as Queensland Rail is rated down as well due to our abysmal fare structure in SEQ.

The point overlooked by most media outlets though is this.  Queensland Rail has the highest safety rating of all suburban train networks in Australia.  Don't you think this should be highlighted too?

From http://www.canstarblue.com.au/travel/transport/city-trains/metro-trains-passenger-ratings/

Scaremongering only encourages people to give up safe forms of transport for the very risky road gauntlet of injury and death.

Transperth is a relatively new system compared to the other networks.  It also doesn't have to compete with freight trains, has a good fare system and frequency, and has proper feeder bus networks.  Some lessons for SEQ there.

Balanced reporting rather than ' click bait ' would be appreciated by all.

I think Queensland Rail should be commended for their ongoing efforts to ensure safety is a priority.  Well done!

Best wishes
Robert
