Couriermail --> Year of CBD disruption as $11m Edward St project starts

QuoteJUST weeks after inner city Brisbane streets were shut down to accommodate filming on the latest Thor movie, CBD retailers are facing 12 months of disruption as work starts on a major streetscape upgrade.

Scheduled to start today, the first stage of the $11 million Edward St renewal project aims to counteract the anticipated lure of the Queens Wharf project at the opposite end of Queen St.

Footpaths will be widened and paved with granite and new street furniture installed to transform it into a "world-class retail environment", according to Brisbane City Council. Trees will be planted to create a boulevard. ...

... Traffic conditions will change during construction, with the drop-off area on the southern side of Edward St used as a third lane while the northernmost lane is closed.

Bus stops will also be moved. ...

Otto

I wonder what they have planned for bus services that use the terminus at stops 142 / 143 Edward Street (between Queen and Elizabeth).
There are often radio calls asking drivers not to arrive early at this stop due to chronic overcrowding of multiple services using this stop particularly during afternoon peak.
Routes affected, 227, 232, 234, 320, 346, 353, 372, 373, 377, 378

Not to mention traffic congestion caused by diversions to make way for Queens Wharf development.  :fp:
