The meltdown on the roads every Easter gets worse by the year.  It would be a good move to introduce some Easter Rail specials. For example extras to Maryborough on the Thursday before Easter and return on the Monday.  Similar trains could run to Toowoomba, with perhaps  motor-rail options as well.  Maryborough is electrified so no problems there. Toowoomba might be a little more difficult but they should be able to put together a couple of consists.

They could have Easter egg hunts as well.

David Gibson is happy about another rail service for Gympie commuters.

How much happier it would be if there were several rail services ...

Agree wholeheartedly, Gympie North frequency is unfortunately measured in days ...

With rising costs, including fuel costs, tourism operators who rely on the daytripper buses to deliver tourists/customers from Brisbane (the typical 'pensioners' day out) have reported a drop off in custom, due mainly to the higher cost of the bus component.  Some bus companies require a 40-50 confirmed passenger load before trip can occur.  There are reports that tourism groups are looking to build a two or three-day break in and around Gympie, based around people making their own way to Gympie by train, using the new daytime service (thereby eliminating the bus from Brisbane), being bussed around locally and staying the night, before more touring the following morning, then taking the visitors to the train for a daytime return to Brisbane, from where they can make their own way home after 4.17pm

From little things big things grow.  The new day service to Gympie North is a real beginning and opportunity.  It is heartening to hear that some are viewing it in that light.

In Japan, extra long distance services are added around public holiday periods. Having travelled on a holiday special, it was packed out! Great value 5 day tickets (such as the Seishun 18) are also available over holiday periods. Sadly, Queensland isn't in Japan.

Easter Special Trains

Greetings,

Happy Easter!  Providing you and yours survive the road carnage I guess.

Once upon a time we had lots of Easter Special Trains.  We had a real community then too, people talked to each other, as they journeyed to various holiday destinations.  These days, lets be frank - it is a gauntlet of mayhem, injury and death.

We have a railway network.  Encouraging people onto safe modes of transport will help in reducing the cost of the road carnage - rail is 40 times safer than road.  To do that rail services have to be there to use.  No attempt is made to do this, it is all just too difficult these days it seems.

The meltdown on the roads every Easter gets worse by the year.  It would be a good move to introduce some Easter Rail specials. For example extras to Maryborough on the Thursday before Easter and return on the Monday. Better services to Gympie North.  Trains could run to Toowoomba.  Maryborough is electrified so no problems there. Toowoomba might be a little more difficult but they should be able to put together a couple of consists.

It is time we looked at ALL options.

Don't poison yourself on chocolate!

Best wishes,
Robert
