News.com.au --> Australia's public transport is a shambles — and we've had enough

QuotePASSENGERS on Australia's trains, buses and trams are sick to death of terrible public transport.

From state to state, infuriated commuters are venting their anger over inadequate service at a heavy price.

Social media is now overflowing with smartphone snaps of congested stations, closed gates and "delayed" signs, showing just how broken the system has become.

And that's if public transport is even an option in your area

Australia's public transport is a shambles — and we've had enough

Greetings,

Well well, what a major rant at News ..

Australia's public transport is a shambles — and we've had enough

We have constantly raised concerns only to be dismissed.  Well the political reality is now the public transport neglect and failure is going to hurt, and hurt big time we would suggest.

Lets just look at some of the failures in SEQ.

1.  Fare system - completely botched, easily rorted, high cost and anti-public transport.

2.  Bus review charade - TransLink hung out to dry over the 2013 bus review when in fact it was the right and proper thing to do as we constantly demonstrate.

3.  BCC's failure to grasp the need for reform - could most likely lead to the eventual demise of Brisbane Transport - not a good outcome at all.

4.  Confusing transport planning hierarchy - time TransLink was properly allowed to do ALL public transport planning.  TransLink is meant to be the public transport coordinating body after all.

5.  Constant disruptions and missed connections on the public transport network.

6.  Arrogant attitudes from the upper echelons of the transport bureaucracy - no better demonstrated than with the botched implementation of the Tertiary Transport Concession Card.

Falling patronage is a disaster.    We have outlined how to fix the fare system, how to fix the failing bus network, how to increase frequency hence improved connections, in short how to fix our network.  How to grow patronage, improve the fare box and make public transport first choice, not last choice as it increasingly is for many.

No expensive consultation fees.  It is all outlined here on our forum -->  http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?board=19.0

Best wishes
Robert
