Following commitments elsewhere I made it to the Northern Busway (stage one) around noon.  Caught up with some folk from the ATDB and then went along the new extension for a look.

Well organised day with plenty of support staff, refreshments and interesting old buses on the busway as well.

The real value of this stage one will only be fully realised of course with stage 2 and more, but nonetheless an incremental improvement.

A highlight for me was my return journey from the Herston bus station to Roma St.  I was the only passenger on L1708, one of the new 14.5m buses that was doing shuttles between Herston and King George Square bus station.

Some photographs of the day.  Well done to all the organisers, an interesting opportunity to walk something that will be out of bounds come August 3.

Great photos there Ozbob, I went along today for a sticky beak myself and I'd give stage one of the Northern Busway a pretty big tick ;D. It was also a nice treat to see two (L1702 & L1708) of those new Scania K310UB6 x 2 [Volgren] 14.5m buses operating the shuttles today on Brisbane's (inner) northside to KG Square bus station.

I paid a visit between 11 and 12. The new station at RBWH is impressive. However I was somewhat disappointed with the stands and displays - rather lacking compared to the Inner Northern Busway opening.

Now, if this 14.5m bus was able to terminate at RCH Herston Busway station, can Translink explain why they have not extended the 66 to RCH Herston? In the given away literature, there is no sign of the 66 being extended to RBWH either, which I was recently told "should" happen by Translink. I can see the Northern Busway getting even more overcrowded (City-Herston am, Herston-City pm) if bus frequencies are not significantly improved.
