Great news - I love getting to southbank by catching train - Oxley to Toowong and then ferry across to southbank - 15 minute offpeak to Darra also makes it almost convenient whereas the 30 minute offpeak would result in a 20 minute or so wait at Toowong station... or Ferry stop...

My wife pointed out that these new terminals don't feel very "Brisbane"...I think she explained what I couldn't put my finger on...too dark and heavy looking...the design company wasn't from Melbourne was it ? :)

With regards to the design company being from Melbourne (or somewhere other than Brisbane), kind of but not really at the same time. The terminals were designed by Cox Rayner, which is the local Brisbane arm of the greater Cox Architecture group which originated from Sydney (rather than Melbourne). While affiliated, the different wings seem to be semi-autonomous at the same time with Cox Rayner, lead by local branch founder and director Michael Rayner, being responsible for some of Brisbane's more iconic recent developments, including 111 Eagle Street, both the Goodwill and Kurilpa Bridges, James Street Markets and the Brisbane Magistrates Court (co-designed).

While part of the larger group, I would consider Cox Rayner as being for all intents and purposes a Brisbane practice. As for the design of the terminals themselves, maybe the dark and heavy look was a result of the fact that Mr Rayner's house in West End was a victim of the floods as well? Personally, I quite like how they look, and if they operate as well as planned in a flood I think they're a good investment.

The Melbourne comment was a little tongue in cheek but thanks for the info Nathan...the built in flood features are well worth it...hope we never test them at 2011 levels again in my lifetime. I do wish they had a lighter touch in style and finishes...they just look too dark and heavy and out of place to my eyes...they'll have to grow on me I guess.
