TransLink honours diggers with free travel

Friday 20 March 2015

TransLink is honouring defence personnel who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East, offering free public transport for tomorrow morning's (Saturday, 21 March) Operation Slipper Welcome Home Parade.

TransLink spokesperson Kirby Orr said Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel would receive free travel on Saturday (21 March) to honour the occasion.

"As a mark of respect, defence personnel wearing their uniform for the Operation Slipper Welcome Home Parade can travel free across TransLink bus, train and ferry services," Ms Orr said.

"This travel also extends to family members who have a spouse pass and accompanying children.

"Former defence force personnel wearing their service medals, their accompanying spouses and children can also travel for free on the day."

Ms Orr said there would be disruptions to bus services, including diversions and temporary stop closures, due to road closures in the CBD.

"Customers looking to catch a bus into the CBD should familiarise themselves with the temporary changes before heading out on Saturday (21 March)," Ms Orr said.

"Some stops will be closed on Adelaide Street, between Creek and George streets, until about midday (12pm).

"The Cultural Centre Busway Station will also be closed between 8am and 12.30pm with temporary bus stops to be set up on Grey Street for buses that would normally use the busway.

"The TransLink website has a full list of affected bus routes and stop closures, including the diversions each route will take and maps showing the best alternative bus stops."

Normal weekend off-peak fares apply to other customers travelling on the day.

For more information on diversions and stop closures, visit the TransLink website www.translink.com.au or phone 13 12 30, anytime.
