Redbank Workshops 50-year milestone - You are invited!

Rollingstock and Component Services Redbank Workshops will host a family fun day celebration on Sunday, 6 July 2008 to mark its 50-year milestone.


Fun for all the family at the Redbank Workshop's Family Fun Day. The event is open to the public, past and present QR employees and their family and friends, with up to 10,000 people expected on the day. Two sessions will run on the day - Session 1 [8am to 12pm] or Session 2 [1pm to 5pm] - with free entertainment for all ages.


The free entertainment will including a free sausage sizzle, guided workshops land train tours, the chance to climb aboard a locomotive, tracklaying demonstrations, amusement rides, face painting, an animal farm, live entertainment, a chance to meet AFL legend Richard Champion, a live broadcast from radio station River 94.9 and the chance to win some great prizes including a fantastic Traveltrain Holiday.

All guests must pre-register (wrist band entry only) and must wear flat enclosed shoes on the day.

Here are some photographs taken by member mufreight at the open day at Redbank.

The three unit 2000 Class Rail Motor ran a special from Ipswich to the workshops to transport the QR Chief Executive Officer Lance Hockridge and other dignitaries.

I miss the rides I used to have on the rail motors on the Lota line at night...
7 years at Bayside Buses
33 years at Transport for Brisbane
Retired and got bored.
1 year at Town and Country Coaches and having a ball !

Be even better if that three car set was put to use for a trial period operating an extended commuter service between Brisbane and Gatton/Helidon to prove any demand, they could be operated at the same speeds as electric MU sets and operate three trips per day, running express/limited stop service over the Ipswich Brisbane leg.
Such a trial on the new Go card fare structure should pull a few cars off the roads if the times are appropriate.
Just a thought, your comments will be of considerable interest.
