Los Angeles Announces Bus Reform. Brisbane??



Greetings.

Brisbane is falling further behind the international pack. Joining Houston (USA), Hobart (AUS) and Auckland (NZ), Los Angeles (USA) will be conducting a whole of network bus reform process (1).

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk needs to come to the table and fix the bus network. Graham Quirk said that there would be no bus review last financial year. Well Lord Mayor we now have a new financial year. Where is the bus review? Or is bus reform going to become a council election issue?

Voters know about the poor state of the bus network:

"Although public transport is economical for Mr Burgess, he said more money should be spent on additional routes throughout the South-East.

In his suburb of Morningside it was a "dead zone" and train arrival times were unreliable due to track maintenance" (2).


It is not too late to properly reform the bus network. Don't miss the bus Brisbane!

What does the council  opposition think about bus reform? They haven't said anything except for promising ponds of water at king George sq with a fountain

Good question.  Still a while. greens are running candidates in the council election I have heard as well. This could get very interesting...

They were all opposed to it last time regardless of party affiliation (or not in the case of Cr Johnston), pack of nongs that they are.

Judging by the state election I think the Greens have come around in some regards. We could quite conceivably get them to support the Centenary and Bulimba Gliders, the trouble is the attendant rejig of the network around them...

No gain without pain!

It's great they like the bus network concept. Greens tend to like fixed rail for symbolic value but I think they get the importance of networks and how buses are central to the success of rail and PT generally.

They really like the 400 CentenaryGlider, and the Greens vote in the state seat of Mt Ommaney is high at 11%. (Marginal seat)
In Bulimba it is almost the same at 10.4%.

The Greens made bus reform their policy heading into the last state election, so I think this is a group RBoT definitely has on side.

I think the big party to sway with respect to bus network reform at a council level is the ALP. Quirk doesn't give a damn about bus network reform and this is a sentiment seemingly echoed by his fellow councillors. Rod Harding so far seems to be open to the prospect, but if Milton the Dick gets into his ear about network reform, you might as well #getmovingoutofSEQ. Dick has no clue at all...
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?
