Real-Time Travel Information For Trains, Trams And Buses

Minister for Public Transport

20 October 2016

Passengers now have access to real-time travel information across all modes of public transport in Melbourne.

Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan announced today that the roll out of real-time information on the city's train network has begun, with information now available for almost all metropolitan stations.

The technology allows passengers to get up-to-the-minute information about departure times, platform numbers and cancellations on their phone.

It means passengers can properly plan their journey, even if something unexpected happens that delays the train they were going to catch, or changes where it will depart from.

Real time information is already available for Melbourne's trams and buses, and at a number of V/Line stations.

PTV is investigating the roll out of real-time information across the regional train, coach and bus networks, and on the handful of remaining metropolitan stations that, due to technological constraints, do not yet have it.

The Andrews Labor Government is delivering the biggest pipeline of major transport projects in Victoria's history, including the Metro Tunnel, 50 level crossing removals, and a series of line extensions and major upgrades.

This unprecedented construction program will cause significant disruption to train, tram and bus services, making up-to-date travel information critical to help passengers get where they need to go and keep Melbourne moving.

Providing better information to passengers is a key aspect of the new contracts for the ongoing operation of our train and tram networks.

PTV App users will see real time information for trains automatically appear in their menu but will need to download the latest update to see train platform and cancellation information.

The updated PTV App will be available in coming days free of charge from Google Play or the iTunes store.
