All over, ALP win comfortably.

The LNP need to start sorting out the obvious ...

Queensland has three year terms. NSW and Victoria have 4 year terms.

This I think is the source of the polyticks. True the other states have their own game playing, but in QLD it is particularly bad I think.

There needs to be reform on that front.

Sitting governments normally don't do well in by-elections.  The electorate can punish the government of the day and yet feel comfortable that they are not going to overturn government.  ALP cannot expect that a winning margin of more than 18 per cent will be repeated at a general election.  What's clear is that a swing is on the way, and a substantial one.

The forensic skills of the political parties will have to get to work determining where the swings will occur, because they won't be uniform.

That's when we get 'targeted initiatives' (read pork-barrelling).  More PT goodies are likely for some communities who can organise their voting intention creatively.

Judging by all the couriermail comments(1000+)......jobs,asset sales, health & vlad laws is what will decide the next election...PT is hardly even mentioned ::)

Don't you worry about that!  Commentators during the week reported that transport costs was figuring highly in the Stafford forums.

My own experience with the Griffith by-election also confirmed that.

If they don't sort the fare unaffordability issue in SEQ they are 'dead men' walking ...

I think the issue is - does Labor even have an actual fare plan for SEQ? Remember, they're the ones who made the fare system as "poisonous" as it is, the LNP just watered it down... I get a feeling the ALP hasn't learnt from its mistakes and will continue down the failed fare path.

I think we would have had a very different outcome had Clive been running a candidate in Stafford, though...
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

ozbob

No.  Ms Trad has already indicated the nine and free will go if up to them (and according to Mr Emerson).  I know the ALP are looking at real fare options. Having been burnt by the failed fare path that is not going to happen again.  PUP will probably come up with something irrational like free trips after morning tea.

I am looking forward to #qldvotes ...  aren't we all?   :bna: :P

When did she say that? I can't find it on google.

I think it was on 4BC in one of their tag teams.  Mr Emerson has mentioned since it a couple of times  ... most recently on twitter.

What Emerson fails to state of course is that getting ride of the free after x is only part of a wider recast of the fare cost base.

Hmm, doesn't sound too promising then.
