Major Brisbane rail gaps

Hi all,

I am interested in what forum members would consider as being Brisbane's main "gaps" as far as rail access goes.

From my point of view, the triangle formed by the Cleveland Line to the north and the Beenleigh (Gold Coast) Line to the south seems a major unserviced, yet well populated area. e.g. Carina, Carindale, Mansfield, Mt. Gravatt, Holland Park. Would a rail connection from say, Morningside to Salisbury be viable?

Also, would it be viable to extend the Cleveland line to Redland Bay with a spur to Capalba?

Cheers,

Your question is an interesting one - but gaps in the railway, new railways and even existing lines have to be sensible to attrach patronage.  Already the Cleveland line does not make anythiong like a straight line to the city, rather it loops around the bay and adds many miles to the journey.

If I was to join up two stations in Brisbane, I would be looking (albeit totally impractically) to somewhere like Newmarket or Alderley and head to somewhere like Carseldine. picking up areas like Everton Park, Aspley and maybe Chermside shops and hospital.

I would actuall link maybe manly through tingalpa to carindal before heading to meet up with buranda. another option though not possiblw would be a break off near murrarie over the gateway to link uo with the dommben line.

Most of those places are already, or will be served by future busways.

another option though not possible
So it's not an option then.

That would be a very pointless extension  ;)

I realise this a old post bumped, but there is terrain issues with the route through Carindale (same for the North Western suburbs eg Albany Creek, Fig Tree Pocket, etc), hence the busway proposed for the eastern surburbs.

Of course the alternative is to subway to Carindale Westfield Shopping Centre, with buses hubbing through there, but I wouldnt really want to think of the costs of a Brisbane-Carindale rail subway.
