Strengthening Queensland 's Supply Chains 2013-2015
The QTLC Releases it's Strengthening Queensland Supply Chain 2013-2015 Report

The QTLC presents its Strengthening Queensland Supply Chain Paper Report 2013-2014 (SQSC).  The report was developed to provide strategic and operational recommendations to improve the development and sustainability of efficient and productive supply chains. It is the result of an extensive review of the existing freight system and the blockages that impact supply chain efficiency.

The SQSC takes a whole of supply chain approach and looks beyond the freight network and the current environment of fiscal constraints to identify low cost, innovative, systemic solutions aimed at unlocking latent efficiency and capacity in the freight system.  It also takes into consideration necessary policy, planning and process reforms required to support the future freight task in Queensland.

The QTLC looks forward to working with government and industry to strengthen supply chains for a more productive Queensland economy.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Scott Emerson

Freight strategy to deliver 10-year growth

A 10-year drive to expand Queensland's rail freight capacity will be the cornerstone to the Newman Government's strategy to meet a 70 per cent growth in produce and commodity movements.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said the draft Moving Freight strategy which identifies 38 actions would support the resources, agriculture, construction and tourism sectors.

"We've already taken actions to fund additional train lines for the Darling Downs, more cattle train services and open up routes for safer classes of heavy vehicles," Mr Emerson said.

"We also have funding submissions before the Federal Government for improvements to train lines on the Sunshine Coast and between Townsville and Mt Isa.

"Today we are releasing this strategy for industry feedback to ensure Queensland has a clear direction to meet the ever-expanding freight task.

"Peak bodies like Agforce, Australian Logistics Council, and Queensland Transport and Logistics Council have told us they want better access to rail, while still maintaining a strong road transport industry and we are supporting these calls."

Freight volumes across Queensland are forecast to increase from 881 million tonnes in 2010 to 1550 million tonnes in 2021.

Some of the key actions and initiatives in Moving Freight include:

Preserving train paths on regional rail lines for non-coal freight
Making major freights routes more resilient to floods and natural disasters
Better collection and analysis of freight data
Continuing to reduce red tape for heavy vehicle permits

"This strategy outlines short, medium and long term actions to move freight onto rail and improve the efficiency of the road freight," Mr Emerson said.

"We've received input from regional and rural industries to develop this strategy and I look forward to feedback over the coming months."

The Moving Freight strategy is available at www.tmr.qld.gov.au

It is expected to be finalised by late 2013, and will support the government's current road and rail infrastructure program.

The QTLC report is a doosey.

The Sunshine Coast rail section referred to in the above media release is the Beerburrum to Landsborough section (I assume).
I'm unaware of any further progress on the 22km duplication Landsborough to Nambour which has the greatest benefits overall FOR FREIGHT

While they seem to have issues improving PT rail, or PT anything really, I am rather impressed at what the current Government has been doing with regards to freight rail.

The current rail infrastructure program doesn't include duplication of the North Coast Line from Landsborough to Nambour which IS the major impediment to the entire 1669km of this line.
Why wouldn't one fix it?

Still, a very positive step forward, the issue is recognised and for that I am grateful.

EDIT: Corrected typo, the North Coast Line - freudian slip perhaps.  :D

ABC Rural --> Farmers welcome rail for agriculture commitment

Quote... AgForce policy officer Nina Murray says the strategy is a great document but farmers need to see more detail about how and when the aims will be achieved. ...
