Great to note the Sydney Metro (a real metro) is naming the new Metro station in Sydney CBD Gadigal.  RAIL Back On Track has previously advocated for renaming Albert St Station (Cross River Rail) to Meanjin. The Turrbal and Jagera people speak Yuggera and their name for Brisbane is Meanjin.

We have also suggested renaming Central station to ANZAC Square.

^^ No worries Kram0.  The suggestion to rename Albert St station Meanjin station has been around of a couple of years now from us and others.  It is not a kneejerk reaction to recent events, just that the naming of Gadigal station on the Sydney Metro was a good opportunity to remind all of the proposal.  My sense is that the State Government and the transport authorities are very reluctant when it comes to station name changes and it is unlikely to occur. My readings here of member support is the majority do favour some name changes.  I will give some thought to a poll/s to gauge how members view name changes now.

This government likes world clarse/grand things. I'd hate to see Roma Street Station become Grand Central Station. There's nothing grand about what we are getting.

Plenty of previous form for renaming stations around Brisbane.

Brunswick Street (open 1890) renamed Fortitude Valley 2008.

Vulture Street (open 1891) renamed South Bank (Vulture Street) then South Bank from 2001.

If Meanjin had been coined originally for Albert Street station there would be no issue I suspect.

At least there is now a committment from the Minister for a review of the names - I presume South Brisbane, Albert St, Central and Roma St all up for review. Park Road will be renamed to Boggo Road is my guess (it is marked as such on SEQ Rail Connect Maps).

And while they are at it rename Thomas Street station > Sadliers Crossing.

Roma Street Station (open 1875) was originally known as Brisbane Terminal Station and was renamed to Roma Street Station in late 1880s when the line through to the station on Ann Street (Central) was opened.

Hopefully it will go out for consultation along with the renaming of the other stations being Central, South Brisbane, and Park Road.

They could rename Albert Street as Meanjin with Albert Street underneath like they did with Fortitude Valley and Chinatown to improve on wayfinding.

No I don't.

Worse case scenario they could call it Albert Street with (Meanjin) in brackets under Albert Street.

This is what happens at Fortitude Valley with Chinatown.
