Permanent change to Blue CityGlider bus route

Brisbane City Council wishes to advise the Blue CityGlider route from Teneriffe to West End will change from next week to accommodate a new bus stop in Newstead.

From Monday 15 December the Blue CityGlider will travel along Skyring Terrace and service a new bus stop next to the Gasworks development near the intersection of Skyring Terrace and Cunningham Street.

As a result the service will no longer service Stop 12 on Commercial Road near Leopold Street.

CityGlider passengers who previously used Stop 12 can access the CityGlider from the new stop on Skyring Terrace or from Stop 6 on Ann Street, near the intersection of Ann Street and James Street (approximately 400 metres from Stop 12).

Passengers wishing to travel on other services to Fortitude Valley or the CBD from Commercial Road should make their way to Stop 7 in Ann Street between Commercial Road and Chester Street (approximately 150 metres from Stop 12).

Stop 12 on Commercial Road will continue to service the 393 Teneriffe Ferry to the RBWH loop.

Bus: CityGlider Reliability takes a Nosedive

4th December 2015

Greetings,

The reliability of Brisbane Transport's flagship Blue CityGlider has taken a nose dive in recent weeks, with a groundswell of complaints to on the TransLink facebook page focused on this route, with users complaining of reduced frequency in peak hours, long gaps between services followed by sudden bunches of two or more buses turning up at once, as well as overcrowding and late running.

Complaints tend to be met with a brush off and the impression the issue isn't being taken seriously.

CityGlider Feedback examples:

It's clear that recent tweaks to the timetable have gone quite badly, and not enough is being done to fix these issues in a timely manner and get one of the cities busiest bus routes running to the standard commuters expect for the amount they pay.

With live GPS tracking of buses now in place, there is no reason they cant be analysing this data, publishing it, and hammering out solutions to "hotspots" like this across the network where buses persistently cant keep to unrealistic timetables, or bunch up.

On frequent routes like the CityGlider, bus controllers should be issuing radio instructions to drivers to speed up, or slow down, in order to maintain the 5-10 minute spacing between services passengers expect, and to avoid unbalanced overcrowding.

Brisbane Transport and Translink need to state what they are doing to get their act together on this one sooner rather than later.

Best wishes
Robert

I have seen more than 10 queued up at the Skyring Terrace intersection before. Quite ridiculous.

The 29 seems to suffer from the same problem regularly, timetabled to run every 5 minutes but instead you'll get 2 or 3 at once every 20 minutes.

Most phones have camera attached, so if you see it, snap it and post. More proof, the better !  :o
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Any idea specifically when the reliability problems started occurring? It might help Translink pinpoint in their data when the issue started, to find the underlying cause.

From where I was you couldn't really tell, I just counted them as they went through the intersection one after the other, and when the lights changed there were still a few that didn't get though :-r :-r :-r Maybe someone should head down around 5pm and see if it happens again today

Re: Bus: CityGlider Reliability takes a Nosedive

Good Morning,

We have had feedback and our observations indicate the problems with Brisbane's bus network are not confined to the CityGlider route.  There are systemic issues all over the network.

A ' head in sand ' approach by Government, transport authorities and Brisbane City Council is very unhelpful to the community.

Leadership and decisive action is needed to sort the mess that is SEQ public transport.  Enough of the spin, deception and duplicity.

A start would be to publish data that is freely available in other states - Bus ontime performance and reliability data at a detailed level that makes it meaningful.

Bus network and fare reform is needed now.   A fare review is underway, Brisbane's bus network just gets worse.

How to sort the bus network is detailed here >  http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=11047.0

Best wishes,
Robert

Of course the data they were getting before TripTracker was cancelled was about 15 times more accurate, and that's been gone for a year or more...

CityGlider deception

Good Morning,

Sources have suggested that a few months ago a number of the dedicated CityGlider buses were ' unwrapped ' and removed from the CityGlider bus route.

This resulted in the loss of reliability and capacity.  Do you think the public would be told?  LOL, of course not this is the secret state.

The announcement that extra services and improved reliability is to be implemented from the 14th December, viz.

probably just means that the buses there were removed from the CityGlider bus route are being added back?  Nothing like duplicitous spin to make things look good hey?

It is little wonder that many close observers view public transport management in SEQ with some contempt.

The CityGlider was originally touted as buses every 10 minutes (7am - 7pm)*, are we now seeing service reductions under the guise of bus and media manipulation?

It's a disease endemic to West End services. The CityCat caught it a few years ago, and the 198 has had it for a long time.

The Blue City Glider now has a bizarre 13 minute frequency on Saturdays (4.5 buses per hour).

It is part of solving the issue that existed with CityGlider services bunching/running late. Instead of putting more fat into the timetable or boosting frequency, they slightly increased frequency to reduce gaps between services and make sure that even if a service runs late, there is still a bus 'every 15 minutes'.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

City Designer

It used to be every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday.
