Gold Coast NightLink removal

Last updated: 1.06pm Tuesday 20 October 2015

NightLink routes N732 and N750 are being removed by City of Gold Coast due to low passenger use.

The last services will operate up until 5am on Sunday 1 November.

You can still catch the following late night services on the Gold Coast after this date:

Route 700 - Tweed Heads to Gold Coast University Hospital, Monday to Friday from 12am to 5am
The G: - Broadbeach South to Gold Coast University Hospital, on weekends from 12am to 5am, every 30 minutes
FlatFare night taxis - from Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise, late Friday and Saturday nights.

For NightLink removal enquiries please contact City of Gold Coast on 1300 GOLDCOAST or 07 5582 8211.

Not really sure about the patronage levels on these services, but I can't say it is a positive thing. Perhaps N750 running from BBS instead of Cavill Ave contributed its downfall? I think for the money they cost (not much I imagine due to the limited span of hours), NightLink services are a good investment.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Not much? They would be expensive due to penalty rates and security onboard.

I'm thinking as in only two buses (and four staff - one driver + one security) would be required. Sure, there are penalty rates (2.5x), but I can't imagine it is that much in terms of actual expenditure (compared to other services).

Personally I find the service really handy (in Brisbane). I've saved well over $300 this year on not catching Ubers thanks to NightLink. There needs to be more promotion of the service and a shift in mentality to make people see the bus as a more attractive option.

I am surprised that they culled the service prior to the Christmas rush. You would of thought the best cull/end date would be the beginning of the year Mon 04 Jan 16
