June delays thus far ... to SC commuters.
This is my 23rd month of detailed daily data recording.

The times reported below do not take into account the 3 minutes and 59 second allowance that QR's service contract to TRANSLink allows.
A Sunshine Coast, Rosewood or Gold Coast train e.g. can be up to 5 minutes and 59 seconds late and is still considered statistically to be 'on-time'.

All times shown below are actual arrival times, all times taken from when train becomes stationary, and before doors open.
NO times are rounded up.

Under my system, early arrival times at destinations are actually subtracted from the TTL (total time lost) figure,
in addition, arrival times less than 2 minutes late are NOT added to these figures.
Only when services are 2 minutes late or more, will the TTL figure increase.

Figures since December 2012 show a significant improvement (i.e. reduction) in the time lost by commuters due to signal faults, electrical faults and delays. Maximum lost time since then was 1 & 3/4 hours in January 2012, least time lost was 1/2 hour in December 2012. The reduction in lost time is very encouraging and the Queensland Rail Transit Authority and State Government are to be congratulated for their efforts to begin to rebuild reliability into the Sunshine Coast / Caboolture lines.

The major factor required to permanently improve the line is rail duplication to Nambour, and, at a cost benefit ratio of 2.285, it's great value for money.
Astonishingly, rail congestion between Caboolture and Nambour was identified as "the major overall impediment" to the ENTIRE 1668 km North Coast Line from Brisbane to Cairns.

UPDATED DAILY
Is it more reliable?
Do these reflect the true on-time performance of our services?
See for yourself by the growing list below;

:thsdo : this symbol denotes a service without toilet facilities, or with 'out of order' toilet facilities.
Re: Toilets; should I forget to check their status, the default has been to always assume that they are working and in order.
This check ONLY applies to the front 3 carriages in the direction of travel.

6:14 AM service from Nambour to City

58 minutes late into Central  power blackout reported ahead between Petrie and Strathpine, 3 or 4 buses took pax away, before we got back onto an all stations train to City. To be fair we have had much better reliability on the Sunshine Coast Caboolture line compared to 6 months ago when delays like this were mundanely regular. Even the length of delays has reduced for certain issues and I appreciate QR and Chairman Glen Dawe for having a positive impact on services. Mr Daw, I understand, has recently applied for the role of CEO of Queensland Rail.

How to beat delays: Class prays and claims train 'miracle'

THEY'RE calling it a "train miracle".

Coolum Beach Christian College's Year 6 class had their "urban electrical adventure" on board the 6.40am train  to Brisbane this morning - on the first day in about three months the network experienced major delays.

The 12 students, two helpers and teacher Matthew Winter were nearing Caboolture when Mr Winter was called aside by a Translink employee to be told of a probable delay.

An earlier  train, the 6.14am to Brisbane, carrying rail advocate Jeff Addison, was stopped and commuters were advised they had to get off the train and be bused to Brisbane.

Mr Addison said the three to four buses were full before commuters were told to get back on the train again as the problem had been fixed.  Nevertheless, he arrived for work an hour late.

Mr Winter said he was told the train was going to be stopped in Petrie and he would have to take the students off the train for them to catch a bus to Strathpine when they would have to get on a train again.

Instead of panicking, Mr Winter asked the adults and class to pray.

"They came and told us the problem was fixed," Mr Winter said.

"By the grace of God we didn't have to get off the train."

He was also thankful the toilets were all fully operational for the entire journey.

"I warned the kids to go to the toilet before they got on the train, because of the stories we had seen in the Daily," Mr Winter said.

"But, thankfully, we were told by the train employee when we got onboard that all the toilets were working."

They are hoping for an incident-free return trip this afternoon.

Mr Addison, who takes the train to work in Brisbane five days of the week, said reliability had been good for the past "two to three months".

Signal fault causes delays on Sunshine Coast train line

SUNSHINE  Coast train commuters have been hit with delays of up to 60 minutes this morning.

Signal problems halted trains between Petrie and Strathpine stations.

Coast public transport advocate Jeff Addison tweeted a photo showing training travellers being herded onto buses.

"2 buses filled and gone ... going to be a very long morning commute. All trains arE at Petrie and shuttling back," he tweeted shortly after 8am.

About 15 minutes later the trains started moving again.

"Train moving now, hooray," Mr Addison tweeted. "Prefer train over bus any day. Power restored. 7:33am arrived Petrie, departed Petrie 8,20am. Running 47 mins late."

A few minutes ago he tweeted: "Good to be moving on a train, even if it's ALL stations in lieu of express Petrie-Northgate. My ETA Central Stn is 9:08am, 1 hour late."

Translink reported trains had  resumed in both directions after the earlier halt, which it said was caused by  a loss of signalling and an overhead power issue at Lawnton.

"Customers should expect residual delays of 30-45 minutes for the rest of this morning's peak," Translink reported.

Remember the brouhaha kicked up when a piece of wire failed near Roma Street and brought down the previous gov't?
Little difference it seems.

How do you hold down your job Jeff? One of my previous employers would dock my pay to the nearest 15 minutes.

If Jeff's a professional salaryman like me, we generally work longer hours to recover any time necessary to complete jobs because our income is not necessarily tied to the hours worked.  The time spent on something is an indicator of efficiency, or how complicated it is.

Fortunately I have very good flexibility with my job in that respect, although few people seem to.

Or if his employer use flex-time like mine as long as you work your set hours per day and aren't heaps late without notice, it's fine.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
