Sunshine Coast Line : Delays for MARCH 2012

March delays thus far ... to SC commuters.

The times reported below do not take into account the 3 minutes and 59 second allowance that QR's service contract to TRANSLink allows.
Further to this contractual allowance, TRANSLink allow trains from the Gold and Sunshine Coasts to be 6 minutes late before being recorded as such.

In my opinion, when the public hear the words "on-time performance" they would assume this means what it says.
But for TRANSLink, the authority tasked with overseeing the public transport system, this is NOT the case and 'spin' is used to obfuscate the truth by changing the definition of 'on-time'.

A Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast train e.g. can be up to 6 minutes late and still be considered 'on-time'.
This of course does wonders for their on-time performance figures.
The times shown below are actual times.

UPDATED DAILY
Before the June 6, 2011 timetable 'improvements', a trip from Palmwoods to Roma Street station, a distance of 97.3 km, took 103 minutes.
Average speed = 56.68 km/h

Today that same trip takes 109 minutes.
Average speed = 53.56 km/h

A 5.83% increase in journey time.

What can I say, in spite of all of the statistics, I'm still an optimist!

I also have a very healthy respect, indeed an admiration for what Queensland Rail and the vast majority of their friendly and helpful personnel achieve every day.  

The duplication of the North Coast Line, will in turn make QR's job much easier and result in savings for freight transportation/delivery, road pavement maintenance costs, environmental savings and complementary improvements in passenger services, like longer express legs and much quicker journeys than the present 1 hour 50min's to 2 hours, for the 104km Nambour to Roma St.
