BUS patronage is expected to multiply and, in the process, help solve one of the biggest issues at Tamworth's annual Country Music Festival – transporting the thousands of people to and from festival venues.

Tamworth Regional Council mayor Col Murray has described the Festival Express initiative as one of the most exciting developments in the 40 years of the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

He said it would be a winner for festival fans and the city.

Visitors and locals have a ticket to ride at this year's festival, with wristbands now on sale so people can hop aboard the city's buses for $10 for 10 days.

The red Festival Express wristbands, launched yesterday, give the wearer unlimited travel for the duration of the festival for a one-off fee of $10.

Cr Murray said the bus initiative would be warmly welcomed by festival visitors as it provided significant benefits.

"This will help alleviate the parking problem in the CBD," he said.

"It's been an ongoing issue with the festival and because all the events aren't held in one place, fans have to travel the length and breadth of the city. This is a fantastic solution."

The wristband will cover travel from Quirindi to Bendemeer to Manilla and places in between as well as accommodation facilities and venues all over the city between 7am and 3am, starting on Friday. Cr Murray said he believed that the wristbands would be as popular with locals as they would be with festival visitors.

"It'll really change the way people think about public transport because Tamworth hasn't really come of age in terms of using public transport," he said.

"This is a really positive step in that direction.

"It will just be so good for our festival."

The Festival Express initiative came about through joint funding from Tamworth Regional Council and $15,000 from the NSW government and a partnership between Hannaford's Coaches and Tamworth Buslines.

Wristbands are available from council offices, the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre and on all buses.
