SEQ: 'Steam iron' of Yeronga area bus routes is required!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers asks TransLink to consider simplifying and increasing the frequency of bus routes in the Yeronga area, namely the route 104, 105, 107 and 108 buses (1,2,3).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Frequency and simplicity are are very important for public transport users. The current route 105 Yeronga service contains a time-consuming detour into Yeronga, and is also very infrequent with an hourly service that takes a very slow, winding route through Yeronga. RAIL Back On Track is surprised at the very poor frequency of this route given its inner city location. It seems that the sheer slowness and convoluted routing of the 105 bus route is one factor in its low frequency and patronage."

"RAIL Back On Track suggests a local consultation of users take place with a view to simplifying services in this area. One suggestion would be to fold the route 108 and 105 buses into a new, faster, more frequent and simpler bus route and also run the route 107 all day. These changes will help improve legibility, patronage and may even save money."

Sent to all outlets as follow up:

17 April 2011

Following on from our previous comments about the Yeronga bus routes, RAIL Back on Track feels that it is no longer important for the 104 to serve Corinda following the removal of the Tennyson trains.  RAIL Back on Track feels that Graceville would allow for a common stop location for the 104 PA Hospital service and 105/108 Annerley Rd replacement service to each serve alternate Ipswich trains.  Doing so would drastically improve currently poor cross town links.  Currently the 104 timetable doesn't allow an adequate connection to Ipswich trains, with 20 minute waits the norm.

The Chelmer St bridge at 3.3m is tight for buses which require a 3.3m clearance.  If it isn't passable, it may be necessary to double back to Oxley Rd or terminate at Graceville for interchange to rail services or the Great Circle bus on Honour Ave.

Additionally, the Great Circle route should join the two proposed routes in Appel St and increase frequency rather than the current situation where the 105 and Great Circle use completely different paths south of Indooroopilly.

Best wishes
Robert
