TRAIN travel has been made cheaper for south-west seniors with ticket costs plunging to less than half the previous price on all V/Line services.

A return fare to Melbourne now costs $43.20 - half the previous cost.

Tickets are also $43.20 for a weekend fare, a saving of $23.20.

Transport Minister Peter Batchelor and Aged Care Minister Gavin Jennings announced the new pricing system yesterday, abolishing the time restrictions that applied to use of senior concession discounts.

Previously seniors had to pay full fare on peak weekday services and full adult off-peak fares for weekend travel   ....
