Minister for Transport
The Honourable Rachel Nolan
16/01/2011

96 per cent of public transport services back tomorrow

Public transport will be almost back to full capacity tomorrow in South East Queensland, Transport Minister Rachel Nolan said today.

All bus and train services will be back on-line with some disruptions as roads and section of railway lines continue to be impacted by flood damage.

Ms Nolan said staff at Translink and Queensland Rail have done an exceptional job maintaining services during the flood crisis while striving towards a full return of services this week.

"I'd like to congratulate all staff for their efforts," she said.

"I've even heard of bus drivers in my own electorate of Ipswich returning to work despite extensive damage to their homes."

Ms Nolan said all public transport until last service on Friday 21 January will be free to keep unnecessary cars off the road, and to help people with the recovery effort and return to work.

"Buses are returning to regular weekday timetables and the entire busway network will resume operations for the first time since Wednesday," she said.

"Most buses will also run to the western suburbs with some diversion remaining through West End.

Remaining network disruptions include:

- Buses will replace trains between Darra and Ipswich/Rosewood

- CityCat and City Ferry services are unavailable until further notice

- Limited service through West End

"Customers who use river services will need to make alternative travel arrangements with a complete list of bus and train connections that service stops near many of the ferry terminals available at www.translink.com.au.

"All train lines are open, with the exception of the Ipswich line which is only running between the Brisbane CBD and Darra station.

"However the new train line from Richlands to Darra is opening one week early to assist commuters from the west use public transport into the city.

"The Richlands station includes a bus interchange and a 650 bay park 'n' ride and I would urge customers to utilise this state-of-the-art station.

"Bus services stopping all stations will also be available, connecting Ipswich to the train service at Darra station."

Richlands station services

Richlands train station will open from Monday 17 January, one week early, to assist flood recovery efforts in Brisbane's western suburbs.

A train service between Richlands and Darra stations will operate from 17 January to 21 January.

Trains will run every 15 minutes to and from Richlands and Darra stations during the morning and afternoon peak period with half hourly services running at all other times.

Passengers will need to connect with the Ipswich line services at Darra station -  and some services will also operate from Richlands station through to the CBD.

The train schedule will be confirmed this evening.

Local residents should make use of the station, where it is safe to do so, by driving and parking at the station or taking local bus services. Please check later for details on local bus services.

The station has 650 car parks to provide access to the TransLink network.

Two new local bus routes will be running hourly services to provide dedicated connections to trains from Richlands station, these being:

    * Route 465 (Heathwood to Richlands)
    * Route 466 (Willawong to Richlands)

Existing routes 460 (Forest Lake to City) and P461 (Forest Lake to City) will also provide services to the station precinctl.

Selected services on existing route 462 (Darra to Forest Lake) will continue to run to Darra Station.

Services between Darra and Richlands will revert to their original timetable as of 24 January 2011.

Is it necessary to have 460 and 461 go all the way into the CBD anymore with the new rail station?
Why not cut them at Darra or Richlands? Seems like money being used for bus-km that are not really
needed post-Richlands opening.

Bus in from the western suburbs will be very slow at peaks particularly this coming week, rail is far preferable ..

I hope they do something for Goodna folk.   If the buses by pass there, then they need to at least put in a shuttle to either Redbank or Gailes (if Gailes accessible).   Also the Springfield - Goodna bus needs to be diverted to Richlands (in fact this should be a regular route now!), or how about a special shuttle Springfield to Richlands?

Long journey bus Ipswich to Darra at peak by road ..

Sent to TL

QuoteWhat are the arrangements for Goodna?  Is there going to be a shuttle bus from there to say Redbank or Richlands?

According to http://www.translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1295156806  Goodna is being missed.

Is there any point in running the Springfield to Goodna bus?  Better to add a Springfield to Richlands bus??

I think a lot of people would be extremely upset if Goodna is left in the lurch.

A bus shuttle Redbank to Richlands could effectively service both Goodna and Gailes until such time as the rail is again up and running.
:hc  neither neat nor pretty but it works.

Re: 460, this is the only service for Sumners Rd between Dandenong Rd and the Freeway, and Dandenog Rd south of Horizon Dr.
The 460/461 do serve the bit from Forest Lake to Inala which is otherwise only served by the 100.

QuoteOn Monday 17 January Ipswich/Rosewood line train services are operating from Darra or Richlands stations to the CBD.

For alternative transport services past Darra station:

A loop shuttle bus service will operate from Ipswich station, stopping all stations (except Goodna)

• 15 mins during morning (5:00am – 9:00am) and afternoon peaks 4:00pm -7:00pm
• 30 mins at other times.

A loop shuttle bus service stopping all stations between Ipswich and Rosewood will operate.

The 529 RailBus (Ipswich-Toogoolawah) and the 539 RailBus (Helidon-Rosewood) services remain suspended.

The new Richlands station will be running services to take passengers to and from Darra station.

Hourly bus services on new routes 465, 466 will operate during this period.

Find out more about Richlands station services.

Please note that due to road closures and a significant amount of traffic using available roads, shuttle bus services are being delayed. Customers are asked to be patient.
You have to be kidding!  A 15 minute frequency bus stopping all stations Darra-Ipswich doesn't get in the ball park for moving all those people (a bit over 5000/3 hours) who use the Ipswich Line beyond Darra every AM peak!  There needs to be express patterns on these services, otherwise they will take forever, unless their plan is to provide such an unattractive service that no one will use it?  Again, CityRail can do it.  While I'm sure demand would be reduced by the flood, not to that degree.

Also, is the Hourly 465 a mistake?  It would normally be half hourly to Forest Lake and hourly to Heathwood.

ozbob

I think there will be many buses leaving every 15 minutes.  In fact I think there will be buses leaving every few minutes with a variety of patterns, eg.  Ipswich to Darra express, all stations Redbank then express to Darra.  Express to Redbank then all stations to Darra.  A mini-shuttle will probably run Gailes to Wacol.  Goodna is being bypassed by the rail bus.

Goodna is a worry, the 500 leaves from Goodna rail and then you have the Springfield Goodna bus!  Maybe an additional Goodna to Redbank shuttle  or push the Springfield Goodna bus on to Redbank.

Yes, it is either a monumental cock up, or another one in the long line of Translink communication failures.

Why are you focussing on the negatives?  It was a mammoth effort to get this far!  Have some respect and appreciation for the hard work the people have done to bring you ANY services at all!

I agree.  It is a massive job to reorganise the whole public transport network in such a short time and with such massive disruptions.  In fact I think both the BCC and Qld Government have handled the whole event admirably which puts the opposition between a rock and a hard place.  They lose out whatever they say.

Totally agree. And for the morning in particular they say they have buses every 15 minutes from 5am to 9am and have asked people to spread their travel time to ease the load (parents watching the news told me that). They know it won't be able to cope if everyone turns up as per usual, but I think people also know these are not standard times and would expect some form of delay.

A major loading station,  what a disappointment that Goodna folks are left in the lurch ..  it would have been no problem to put on a shuttle between Goodna and Redbank for example.  TransLink not good enough at all.  Gailes has <10th of the loadings that Goodna has.  This will only further worsen traffic problems at Goodna.

huh?

There are no rail buses for the punters at Goodna, Goodna misses out.  What a farce that there are not clear instructions other than " catch the rail buses from Redbank station " ....

Goodna has been badly hit by floods (there are many parts unaffected, folks will want to head off to work etc.), a little support would have helped eg clear instructions on what bus is available to get to Redbank!  If there are any ...  surely a shuttle to Redbank could have been arranged ... I am just gobsmacked at this ..

STB

If the bus cannot stop at Goodna due to flood damage, then the bus cannot stop at Goodna!  Safety first! Perhaps if it was a 4WD though?

To me, it's quite obvious that Goodna is part of the minority of PT services that cannot be brought back online today.

In terms of getting to Redbank, they should be able to get the 524/525/526 services.  Those are operating aren't they?

ozbob

STB you are missing the point. Goodna rail is not accessible from the highway, there is nothing (I have family and friends at Goodna) stopping a shuttle bus from Goodna to Redbank.  TransLink have advised they are looking at options as I type.

Thanks TL.  If the 500s are running is not clear at this time.  But where are they going from??  No STB, simply not good enough.  Goodna is a major loader.

Cheers

Latest from TL on Goodna bus, thanks.  Link now on site --> http://www.translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1294905208

QuoteThe following buses will be diverted due to the closure of Goodna station:

463 - will run between Wacol train station to Forest Lake via the normal route but will not stop at Goodna or Gailes train stations.
500 - between Riverlink and Redbank station only.
522 - operating between Wacol train station and Orion Springfield. It will not service Goodna train station.
524 - operating between corner Alice Street and Queen Street Goodna to Redbank Plains via normal route, excluding St Ives loop.
530 - operating between Orion Springfield and Wacol train station only. Will not service Goodna train station.

So pax now informed of options.

Following some observations from those on board the buses in from Ipswich earlier today, it would be a lot more efficient if some of the 'rail buses' ran into Richlands.  There were considerable delays due to the traffic and buses stacking up at Darra.  Simply turn off the highway and up Progress Road.
