Yes, the location is Palmwoods.   You have passed it many times.    That should now make it a bit easier ..

Cane trains mix it with the traffic through Nambour's streets.  A heritage listing requires the tracks to be retained.  Some want a passenger tram to operate on the narrow gauge to Nambour railway station.

wow, do you know approx. where along the line it is so I can look out for it ?
Palmwoods station itself is at 97.3 km (from Roma Street base point) from memory.

If you follow the line towards Brisbane just UP from the Palmwoods station it is in that general area.

The Buderim - Palmwoods Tramway -  the shay locomotive.  Is buried at Palmwoods by the Queensland Rail embankment.

http://www.buderimvillage.com.au/html/heritage_tramway.html

QuoteThe tramway had 2 steam locomotives, the original being a German-built Krauss 0-6-2, plus an American Shay geared loco built in 1915. After closure, the Krauss was sold to Bingera Sugar Mill at Bundaberg, & regauged to 24" by Walkers of Maryborough to suit the sugar mill lines. It was later owned by narrow gauge steam enthusiast Mike Loveday, & spent some time in storage at the Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at Woodford. Buderim Palmwoods Heritage Tramway Inc. (BPHTI) acquired it from the next owner, G.Chapman, in 2004, in order to restore it for public display in accordance with our heritage-related objectives.

The Shay locomotive was dismantled & parts sold for use on sugar mill Shays. The boiler, & possibly the frame, were buried in the embankment of the Palmwoods railway station when the north coast line was electrified in early 1988. The steam dome & boiler top are visible, but Queensland Rail (QR) have declined to excavate it due to its proximity to the overhead lines.

Is it from one of these?

The Mapleton tramway and Moreton Mill system was 2' gauge.  Although very interesting in its own right of course.  The Buderim - Palmwoods tramway was 2' 6" gauge surprisingly.  Bits of the shay from Palmwoods did end up on the shay at Nambour.

TT, we are very lucky to have the 2 rails.  ;D
But hey, it's just a national north south freight corridor through the 3rd largest growth area in Queensland.
