What was: Tram maps for Sydney

The Sydney System does not often rate a mention. It used 3.2 times as many trams than Melbourne (500 trams) does today and was an absolutely colossal system. (I note that Brisbane has 1000+ buses and has to build more).

If I drew red lines over maps like these maps had and said "lets put light rail there, there and there" I would probably be derided. That's how entrenched car-centrism culture is today. But this was the reality in the 1930s, there were services everywhere, and the sydney system also made profits! (To be fair, it started making losses towards the end). Something like this would be completely unimaginable today...

Now Sydney has massive traffic jams and problems, rail network extensiton, all of which are hangovers and after-effects of a very expensive balanced transport "let it sprawl" policy which they still seem to be in denial about, and now have to apply expensive fixes!

Dig a well before you are thirsty!
