FOUR people have been injured after a collision between two Sydney monorail trains, the NSW Fire Brigade says.

Another 12 passengers were rescued from the carriages following the crash at Darling Park Station, at the corner of Sussex and Market Streets on Saturday afternoon.

NSWFB Superintendent Chris Bishop said said the first train was stationary when it struck from behind about 4pm (AEDT).

"The monorail did not plough at full speed into the back of the other one," he told AAP.

"My understanding is that they were going slow."

Supt Bishop said all of the passengers of the first train were able to alight unassisted.

But 12 people on the second train were helped off by police and monorail staff while the remaining four were treated by paramedics.

Among those hurt was an elderly woman.

Their injuries were not severe but three of them were taken to hospital, he said.
