It is becoming increasingly clear that in an ideal world the freight trains that pass through the suburban network be routed around Brisbane.

Some options would be a western bypass from north of Caboolture around to back of Ipswich, proposed southern freight rail corridor to Bromelton.  New line from standard gauge corridor to Gateway corridor to ports.

Just saw this post. Will comment as its important in "the big picture".
Yes, freight needs attention, however, I believe a solution would be best addressed AFTER a final alignment is found for the "North South Border railway".
i.e. North Star to its "final points North".

This urgent development may sway what alignment is best into BNE, & in fact through SEQ.
I find it amazing how long that the alignment decision has taken since, I believe continental rail is arguably one significant reason the U.S.A. became a powerhouse.
Easy, relatively quick access from one side of the continent to the other. Potentially significant strategically & Also, saves costs, saves lives.

My 2 cents worth is for a North South rail through Goondiwindi Northwards with a duplicated rail, (or space for future duplication) North of Toowoomba through Laidley to Jimboomba. The exact route negotiable, but in essence incl. T'mba as its a major city & re Laidley ish to Jimboomba minimises gradient, environment and uprooting of people.
