Intergrated public transport vision for Brisbane

« Reply #563 on: February 28, 2010, 04:30:11 PM »

Public transport on the move!  Smiley

... oops signal fault, track failure, bridge strike... service canceled...

Althoug does the Brisbane System have an abnormally high rate of faults when compared to say Sydney, Melbourne or Perth?

Does anyone have information on this?

Melbourne is worse than Brisbane, Sydney about the same as Brisbane as far as I can tell.

The service should be able to run > 95% ontime all hours.  This must be the first target.

It would be interesting and worthwhile to have available publicly the break up of failures on all lines around the clock.

Victoria does this, click --> here!

I find it disturbing that a lot of non peak disruptions generally go unnoticed  apart from those pax directly impacted.

Things don't seem to be getting any better do they, and problems that have existed for some time are just left to fester. For Example the Sunday afternoon train from Gympie North, overloaded and unruly behaviour.  Reports of  problems on this afternoons train. 6 car IMUs should be used or run the ICE sets as 6 car units ... More services are needed and some enforcement of railway bylaws for the comfort of all passengers.

Meanwhile ...

I'm surprised nothings cancelled for FG, rain was over the bridge ~2pm yesterday.... and it was still raining last night (and the bridge is slightly higher than the level crossing/tracks around there)

Was an issue with a signal at lota. My train terminated at manly. Once again the staff at manly were very helpful with constant announcements telling passengers to go to the bus stop and staff out on the platform helping people.

Bomb scare at Bowen Hills delays Brisbane trains

Quote
Bomb scare at Bowen Hills delays Brisbane trains

    * From: The Courier-Mail
    * March 10, 2010 4:23PM

A BOMB scare on a Brisbane train is causing 30 minute-delays this afternoon for thousands of commuters.

At 3.30pm, a train at Bowen Hills station was stopped when police arrived to investigate the scene.

A police spokeswoman said: "We had a bomb threat."

"We're still investigating it at this stage.

"I believe it (the alleged bomb) was on a train."

Translink said the knock-on effect would cause delays of up to 30 minutes for all trains.

Trains starting rolling through the station again at about 4pm.

"They've just started going, not long ago," a Translink spokesman said.

"Police have been on site."

It is not yet known whether police have a suspect or are questioning anyone in relation to the threat.

Eventful trip from Toowong, Shorncliffe train, leaving 3.09 this afternoon.  First we had an announcement between Milton and Roma St that the train would only be going as far as Bowen Hills 'because of a technical problem'.

I got out at Roma St, and another train pulled in a minute or so later.  Then just past Fortitude Valley, there was another announcement that 'due to a police incident at Bowen Hills' we would have a short delay.  So we sat.  Identical messages about the 'police incident at Bowen Hills.  Queensland Rail deeply regrets... etc' every 5-7 minutes.

We finally moved at about 4pm, crawled into Bowen Hills, where there were lots of TL staff about, but I didn't see any police.  A long pause there, then finally on our way.

There wasn't really anything I could fault in QR's handling of this - the repetitive announcements about the 'police incident' were pretty irritating, but I'm sure the driver was equally in the dark, and there wasn't anything he could say about it anyway.  No problem with air conditioning, thank goodness, though I wish I'd been sitting next to someone thinner - she was probably wishing the same.

I was delayed 18mins by the "scare" this evening. The passenger load counting people were on the 2nd Ferny Grove train after the incident, which was 18mins later than timetabled, and about 2/3rds as full as usual as the preceding train was only 7mins ahead instead of 22mins. I might contact QR, to let them know not to count that count.

I think that off peak should count just as much as peak.

I was effected by this (was meant to catch the 12.38 train that came in at 12.52), and I needed to get home to an appointment that I was 20 minutes late for.

Because its off peak, how often does it happen?  The only people who ever know about it are those who are inconvenienced and while we know the network can't be perfect all the time (even in an ideal world), EVERYONE should count and everyone's time is valuable.  By the time the train arrived, there were quite a lot of people waiting on the platform at Roma Street!

Late running in off peak counts just as much (if not more) than late running in peak. QR control are definately aware of all late running and prepare reports for TransLink. I have no idea what criteria TransLink use for late running in their reports, but the reason for why its running late does come into play.
