TransLink Tracker Q2 2018-19 finally published!

Good Morning,

The Q2 TransLink Tracker has been finally published ( https://publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/translink-division-quarterly-reports ).

The Minister for Transport also released a statement supporting the data in the Q2 Tracker ( SEQ public transport on track for record patronage http://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2019/5/2/seq-public-transport-on-track-for-record-patronage ). But as is often the case the Minister's statement does not tell the complete story.  There is good news in the sense that the patronage longer term trend is one of a patronage gain network wide on public transport in SEQ. However, at RAIL Back On Track we look at the data in more detail.

RAIL Back On Track is compiling a longitudinal series of quarterly patronage all modes which gives a little more insight than the Government media statements and the skeleton data reporting in the TransLink Tracker.  All these series can be found at https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?board=91.0

Patronage is showing moderate sustained increases network wide as can be noted above. Ferry and SEQ Regional bus (outside Brisbane) has stagnated (exception is Western) however, but Citytrain rail, Brisbane bus, and light rail all good sustained patronage growth.

Bus on-time running is getting worse generally. No surprise, as traffic congestion impacts and a failure to reform the bus networks starts to hit home.  Urgent bus network reform is needed.

Fare affordability is in the doldrums and has been for a while. Is the worst KPI of all the TransLink KPIs. We expect nothing will be done to turn this around until the Next Generation Ticketing system is rolled out.

A summary of our review of the Q2 TransLink Tracker can be found on Facebook here > https://www.facebook.com/RAILBackOnTrack/posts/2596316687049169

Best wishes,

Robert
