Media Release 31 July 2008

SEQ:  Go card problems mount ? now a go ?circus?

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport has called for urgent action to resolve the many ongoing issues with the go card.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

?The Brisbane media has been reporting many examples of disgruntled go card users being forced to give up using the go card because of constant fines, which when users make application to the Go card call centre are being denied refunds.?

?The go card system is clearly not fit for purpose.  It is not satisfactory to continue to blame users for touch failures.  The equipment and system is poorly designed and is plagued by glitches.?

?My daughter decided to use the go card this week for the first time.  On trips 7 and 8 today, rather than receiving the 50% discount she was charged the full fare (1). This has now upset her travel budget for this week.  On ringing the TransLink Go Card centre she was told the ?system went down today?.  This was probably a reference to the go card call centre failure today in Brisbane.  How convenient??

?How much longer is the go card charade going to be foisted on an unsuspecting public??

?Is there any leadership  in the TransLink Transit Authority, who have been strangely silent concerning this ongoing go fiasco??

?Is there any leadership left in the Queensland Government??
