PIDs western approach to Platform one Darra.  Very handy, particularly with the variety of platform usage at Darra.

Thats one of the downsides of the LCD screens. They only have one layout which is designed more for up close reading. The LED PIDS they used to have at Park Rd, while a bit dodgy could be read from a far and whilst running for the train. Now you can't even read the screen on platform 1 from platform 2 (though theres 2 screens at the ticket office now as well).

New bike facilities for Darra train station
Friday 23 September 2011

Work has started on a new bike shelter and personal storage lockers for up to 24 bikes at Darra train station.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the new $150,000 bike shelter would help people stay active by giving them a place to store their bikes and personal belongings at the end of a ride.

"The bicycle enclosure will make it even more convenient and safer for Darra residents to use public transport," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"The new enclosures are modern, safe and secure. The well-lit bike shelter will be monitored by CCTV and use card access to make sure riders, bikes and belongings are safe.

"Once finished, there will be even more reasons for people to consider walking or cycling to the station, swapping their car keys for a bike helmet or running shoes.

Construction commenced on 19 September and it should be open later this year.

$150,000 for 24 bikes? Sounds a bit excessive to me.

Much better value for money than the Jindalee park'n'ride, which will fill up all of one bus.

Are these described above cheaper than the existing 2 bay bicycle boxes that we have at various locations across the network.
If card access is required (and I assume Go card perhaps) then they must be planning on charging for the privilege at some later date ?

The bicycle locker at Darra railway station.  This is located on the UP (shop) side and is where the temporary station office once was.

Had bicycles in it even on a Sunday.

No, Well most likely not.

RFID systems are cheaper in some ways, for example each card (depending on brand etc) is only about ~8.00, compared to what a restricted key costs to get cut and for the locksmiths labour.

Also means you can kill of individual cards etc compared to "groups" of keys.

They should be integrated with registered GoCard access!

Darra is a classic case study of how to botch a major upgrade.

(not the construction, they can only build what they are told to build - the planning and layout)

It will stand as a sentinel for the vigilant, to guard against the ' Queenslander ' mediocrity so rampant, so perverse ...

It does seem we might have moved on from that dark dark period. At least Petrie is being done right.   :P

Come to the darkside Bob.

Our bus service is still rubbish but at least our interchange station is done right (ignoring the backwards platform numbering...)

ozbob

Hey, Goodna has flipped platform numbers as well.  I have asked ' official ' sources in days gone by as to why.  No one knows ..

I have my own hypothesis ... but still an interesting oddity.   Queensland!  Beautiful one day, reversed the next!   :P

I assume Petrie only had one to start with (given its length & location), and they just added 2 without thinking.
