QuoteStage 1 construction works to upgrade the section of Waterworks Road that runs adjacent to the park 'n' ride was completed in October 2012.

Stage 2 construction works to construct the park 'n' ride facility are currently underway.

We will continue to update the community as the project progresses.
What is The Gap (Enoggera Reservoir) park 'n' ride?

The Gap (Enoggera Reservoir) park 'n' ride is part of TransLink's $48 million Station Upgrade Program and will provide:

    parking for approximately 85 vehicles
bus station with four bus bays
sheltered and secure platforms with comfortable seating and lighting
a kiss 'n' ride area for dropping off and picking up bus passengers
    driver's amenity facility
bus lay-over accommodating four bus bays
direct pedestrian and bicycle access with secure bicycle storage
    security cameras and lighting
extensive landscaping using more than 13,000 native plants.

This means people can safely park their cars and transfer to a bus to complete their journey. This encourages more people to use public transport for most of their journey.

Park 'n' ride on waterworks rd to help commuters use public transport

QuotePark 'n' ride on waterworks rd to help commuters use public transport

Construction is under way on a $6 million park 'n' ride facility in The Gap aimed at reducing traffic congestion.

The 85-car facility on Waterworks Rd has been praised by public transport lobby group RAIL Back on Track, but spokesman Robert Dow said it would only succeed if proven financially viable.

''It is in a good location in The Gap because road congestion is a big problem heading into the city during peak times,'' he said.

''We've found some of the park 'n' ride facilities can get pretty expensive though, costing about $20,000-$30,000 per parking space.

''We would suggest the facility be linked with the Go Card to ensure people using it are catching public transport. It will only be a couple of dollars per person but it will help pay for the facility,'' Mr Dow said.

Ashgrove MP Campbell Newman said the facility would make catching public transport easier for residents of The Gap, Mt Glorious, Mt Nebo and Jollys Lookout.

''The population has increased dramatically in the area and this park 'n' ride facility will help with the increased demand for public transport services,'' he said.

''Many bus commuters have been parking along Waterworks Rd and this facility is one step in helping to get cars into a safe and secure area.

''All of the buses that will service the park 'n' ride facility will have Go Card facilities.

''This project is not just about providing car parks for commuters, it is also about increasing safety along Waterworks Rd in the area.''

Carpark construction is set to be completed by early May.

Had a look the other day. It's basically look like a muddy paddock at the moment. Still, I think the main benefit from this is something they didn't mention: the turnaround allows for bigger buses to run on at least the 385.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Would require some re-shuffling within KGSBS for that!

Also means an additional mealling area for drivers so they don't have to return to the depot.

Drove past over the weekend. The new car park area has kerbs and has been surfaced. It's currently the 385 turn-around bus stop while the new bus stop/layover is built. They've built most of the footpath and the waiting area shade structure seemed to be in place. They were still preparing the ground for the road surface though, it had a pretty big drop. Doesn't look too far off though.

It's not a massive car park, but judging by my experience using the one at the intersection of Waterworks and Settlement Rds where there's generally a car or two half parked in a garden/on kerbs in the circulation space and some overflow into the grocery store car park across the road, there might be. Though that said, I'm not aware of the grocery store ever having to enforce their car parks as theirs, so either park n riders from The Gap are politer than most, or there's not a huge demand. Option 3 of course is that they've previously had to enforce it and now people respect it.

It'd be interesting to see where exactly they come from though, The Gap isn't a hugely wide suburb...

Perhaps they drive over the hill via Settlement Rd since the FG line is still to match the 385's freq and span?

Maybe, but that's the part of Keperra I'm from. I've done that on weekends when the half hour train is killer, but currently you can still get a park at the new big PnR at FG. I guess the peak frequency is still better on the 385 than the train, but coming across Settlement Rd then heading outbound on Waterworks is a bit like going backwards to go forwards. Though driving to FG probably is no better really once you factor in the chances of getting caught at one of the boom gates.

anyone know how full this is getting parked? Have been a couple of complaints on TL facebook regarding peak overcrowding on the 385 back to the way it used to be....and thats with the MG in place.
currently at 10 minute frequency @ peak.
