Sunshine Coast Line : Delays for DECEMBER 2013

December delays thus far ... to SC commuters.
This is my 29th month of detailed daily data recording.

September 2013 set a new record for the least time lost in total, over the month, on the trains that I caught.
Another remarkable effort by Queensland Rail management and employees. 

The times reported below do not take into account the 3 minutes and 59 second allowance that QR's service contract to TRANSLink allows.
A Sunshine Coast, Rosewood or Gold Coast train e.g. can be up to 5 minutes and 59 seconds late and is still considered statistically to be 'on-time'.

All times shown below are actual arrival times, all times taken from when train becomes stationary, and before doors open.
NO times are rounded up.

Under my system, early arrival times at destinations are actually subtracted from the TTL (total time lost) figure,
in addition, arrival times less than 2 minutes late are NOT added to these figures.
Only when services are 2 minutes late or more, will the TTL figure increase.

Figures since December 2012 show a significant reduction in the time lost by commuters due to signal faults, electrical faults and delays.
The least time lost was 21 minutes in September 2013. This is the least time lost in my 27 months of detailed daily records.
The reduction in lost time is very encouraging and Queensland Rail and the State Government are to be congratulated for their efforts in rebuilding reliability into the Sunshine Coast / Caboolture lines.

The major factor required to permanently improve the line is rail duplication to Nambour, and, at a cost benefit ratio of 2.285, it's great value for money.
Astonishingly, rail congestion between Caboolture and Nambour was identified as "a major overall impediment" to the ENTIRE 1668 km North Coast Line from Brisbane to Cairns.
Also astonishingly, 44% of our daily train services are in fact rail buses, 26 per day - 13 northbound and 13 southbound. These buses traverse the road network acting as trains due to the congestion of the predominately single track line.

As from 20th January 2014, the Sunshine Coast and Caboolture will each receive 2 new daily services.

Sunshine Coast:
The AM peak service departs Nambour at 5:07am, and runs express from Caboolture to Northgate (14 stations), arriving at the CBD at 6:53am.
The PM peak service departs the CBD at 4:22pm, and runs express Bowen Hills to Northgate to Caboolture (19 stations), arriving at Nambour at 6:10pm.

Sunshine Coast timetable modifications:
The current 4.34pm Nambour express service will depart Central station 6 minutes later at 4.40pm.

Caboolture:
A PM peak service will depart Central at 3.55pm and will run express Northgate to Petrie (9 stations), arriving at Caboolture at 4.50pm.
A PM peak service will depart Central at 4.10pm and will run express Northgate to Petrie (9 stations), arriving at Caboolture at 5.05pm.

Caboolture timetable modifications:
The current all stops Caboolture service departing at 4.07pm, will terminate at Petrie. If you normally catch this train to stations beyond Petrie, you will need to transfer.
The current 4.22pm Caboolture express service will depart Central station 6 minutes later at 4.28pm.

Gympie North timetable modifications:
The AM northbound service will depart Central station 4 minutes earlier at 9.33am. It will arrive at Caboolture at 10.17am and Gympie North at 12.39pm.
The PM northbound service will depart Central station at 5.51pm - arriving at Nambour at 7.44pm and Gympie North at 8.48pm.
This is 6 minutes later than the current 5:45pm departure time.
